STOP

STOP was a final project for an animation course at RPI. Aside from an early flipbook assignment, the class had focused primarily on Flash. Other than the requirement of being at least ten seconds long, we had a lot of freedom for the final project, and I wanted to try a more tangible method of animating. The stop-motion filming process itself took less time than I’d expected. The bulk of the time spent on the project was in planning and preparation, including storyboarding, character design, attempting to get a frame capture setup working, building a camera stand/filming area, and cutting all the pieces I would need. While I hadn’t done much of any animation with paper before, I was able to apply knowledge gained from past projects both in and out of the class to my experience in working with paper in order to come up with a finished product that I was pretty happy with. I’d be interested in revisiting the project to add sound, though.
